Tricks, spells and black-light theatre magic in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen:
Things to do in Salford:
Do you have your half term all figured out? If not, then we have lots of suggestions to keep you busy throughout the week.
We’re open as usual over the bank holiday weekend so the fun starts with Saturday Playhouse – Make Your Own Art. This weeks theme is Fairytale Faces so bring the characters from your favourite fairytales to life by joining us to create fun masks inspired by classic stories – from big bad wolves to sleeping beauties!
Free Family Sunday
Sunday is all about the FREE activities – Explore the Lowry Favourites exhibition and draw your own Lowry inspired mini-masterpiece and a decorative frame to put it in – perfect to hang on your wall when you get home. If you prefer to do your exploring outside then join us for a Guided Trail Tour of Unlocking Salford Quays. These are FREE but must be reserved in advance on 0843 208 6000.
Drop in between 12pm – 3pm for Art Zone – Lowry Faces, another free activity. Take your time getting here though as you may be interupted by Manchester United’s open-bus parade, scheduled to arrive in the area around 1pm. More details.
Rest of the week
The exhibition spaces are open as usual and we currently have on display an extended version of Lowry Favourites as well as Nadav Kander: Selected Portraits, 1999-2011 which features stunning images of Eric Cantona, Take That, and Cheryl Cole. There are free talks on LS Lowry daily at 12pm and 2pm. Full details of tours and opening hours can be found at <a href="http://www.thelowry.com/exhibitions.http://www.thelowry.com/exhibitions.</span>
In the theatres we host a bunch of politically incorrect puppets in the west end musical Avenue Q (12+). You can get a real flavour for the show on their Q Tube channel. If you’re looking for more of a family show then prepare to be swept away into a fantasy world by The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Watch the trailer at the top of this post.
If you’re looking for more activities this week then their are a few places remaining for Drama Zone – Family Games, Art Zone – Super Sculptures, Under 5’s First Steps and BRB’s Coppélia Ballet Workshop.
So, lot’s to think about here. We hope to see plenty of smiling faces down at The Lowry for the free activities and more throughout the week. Visit our Family section online to help you plan your visit.
