Refugee Week at The Lowry

Rainbow Haven supports people who are seeking asylum or are refugees in Gorton and Salford. While people were waiting for support photographer Anna White and embroiderer Emily Hayes facilitated art workshops. They created a pop up studio in the centre and gave out disposable cameras to the clients to take outside and photograph in the community. When all the photos were collected they were transferred to the fabric. Once on the fabric they were embellished with embroidery and written on with stories from the refugees about their lives. The banners have been a great voice for the refugees and asylum seekers to express themselves and their journeys from their country of origin, to England.

The artwork is now being exhibited in the Studio foyer to celebrate Refugee Week which runs Mon 17 – Sun 22 June.
