Sing City Salford at The Lowry

Last year The Lowry and Brighter Sound worked together on a project combining dance, music production and film with young people from Swinton.  This year we are delighted to be working together again on another exciting opportunity for young people from across Salford – and beyond.

Sing City Salford is a vocal and song writing project which gives Salford’s young singers, song writers, MCs, beatboxers and vocalists the chance to come together to share and learn new skills.

We run a free session at The Lowry every Tuesday evening 6-8pm. The project is open to young people aged 13-18yrs who have an interest in music, enjoy singing or who would like to find out about writing their own material. No experience is required; just an interest in music and a willingness to have a go, collaborate and perform in a supportive and friendly environment.

Each week we explore singing, harmonising, learn new vocal skills and write new music. The sessions are fun and very creative. Chantelle, 16, says “It is an incredibly warm and friendly environment, where anybody is welcome…I’ve discovered my own voice”

Eddie, 18, commented “I love to sing so when I came across it I had to join. Just one session has helped me enormously”

The project in Swinton last summer was just the start of a very exciting partnership between Brighter Sound and The Lowry. Sing City Salford provides the opportunity for young people from Salford and beyond to develop as vocalists and songwriters, and can provide a stepping-stone to further opportunities, and possibly even a career, in music.
