What if there was a public celebration of dance everywhere, around the world, simultaneously? What if, in one moment, the whole world started dancing?
Everyone is invited – and today is the day!
At 7pm UK time stop whatever you are doing and get dancing and join the worldwide celebration of dance!
Tweet us your dance anywhere pic between 7-8pm tonight and be in with a chance of winning 2 tickets to the opening night of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures brand new show Lord of the Flies on Wed 2 April. (Remember to mention @The_Lowry and use the #danceanywhere)
Dance Anywhere isn’t something new to The Lowry and you may have noticed over the past few months we’ve been encouraging everyone to get dancing and to dance anywhere!
The idea came from our Youth Dance Ambassadors, a group of young people aged 11-25 who are passionate about dance and they coined the phrase ‘Dance Ambassadors can #danceanywhere‘.
Well this got me thinking can’t we all dance anywhere and why don’t we? Taking dance out of the ordinary setting of the studio and stage seemed really exciting and so we launched a competition for everyone to get dancing.
We were overwhelmed at the amazing images we got through from our twitter follows and selected our favourite 5 to be displayed in our gallery as part of our Dance on Film exhibition. See all of the #danceanywhere images entered into our competition.
But that’s not the end of our #danceanywhere journey. Last weekend The Lowry hosted U.Dance North West 2014 the regional platform to show off the best the North West has in Youth Dance. During the weekend The Lowry and the surrounding Quays area were over taken by even more amazing #danceanywhere pics
Yet more #danceanywhere was to follow as we celebrated our dance programme being sponsored by Manchester Airport Group dance ambassador Johanna donned her pointe shoes, grabbed her passport and headed to Manchester Airport for a day of dance anywhere photos. See the full set of #danceanwhere pics from Manchester Airport – from concorde to the check in desk.
And now we come to the big one – yes today is International Dance Anywhere Day!
Millions of people, all over the world, are going to stop what they’re doing and start dancing… all at the same time! Together!
More than 432 cities around the world have been given a specific time they need to start dancing, San Francisco 12pm, New York 3pm, Paris 8pm etc… and for us, here in the UK, we need to be dancing at 7pm!
So your mission, should you choose to accept it is as follows:
Date: Friday 28th March
It really is that simple. Start dancing at 7pm and get everyone you’re with to do the same. Tweet us your pictures @The_Lowry and remember to tag #danceanywhere and be in with a chance of winning tickets to see Lord of the Flies!
