The Lowry Young Actors Company started the year with a brand new production called ‘Poppadum Preach’ which premiered in the Aldridge Studio Theatre last week.
The play centred on the world of amateur dramatics company ‘Poppadum Preach Productions’ and their attempts to put on a play called ‘Elvis: the Extravaganza’. Poppadum Preach was written by two young performers, Sophie Finnigan and Tom Arrowsmith, who worked closely with both the Lowry Young Actors Company directors and the programing team at the Lowry to develop the script. Both are working with the company as part of their Gold Arts Award Qualification.
Arts Award is open to anyone up to the age of 25 and it is designed for young people to not only explore their creativity within different art forms, but also to develop leadership and communication skills, in addition to learning about, and working towards a future career in the arts.
Sophie said; ‘To be able to write a play with one of my closest friends was great fun. Some days were a challenge but overall me and Tom had such a laugh – the final outcome was bigger and better than we could’ve predicted’
