Last week was an epic week in the legacy of LS Lowry. The painter’s two namesake buildings The Lowry & The Lowry Hotel joined forces to celebrate the 50th anniversary of being given the freedom of the city of Salford.
While The Lowry launched a re-vamped galley space with brand new loans to the already booming collection of Ls Lowry art works. The Lowry Hotel introduced their new menu ‘LS Lowry’s Afternoon Tea.’
Highlighting foods that inspired LS Lowry to paint and draw throughout a lifetime, such as Eccles Cakes and Orange Squash, and a Manchester Tart, the hotel’s menu takes on an imaginative twist to these well-loved local delicacies.
Head Pastry Chef at the hotel Brett Pistorious, who admires LS Lowry for uncomplicated tastes, was responsible for creating the most incredible Chocolate & Wimberry Mousse. Brett has an impressive CV and has worked in five star hotels across the globe. As well as running his own chocolate dessert company ‘The Pastry King,’ he was appointed at the Manchester hotel in 2013.
Better known as the home of the Wimberry pie, LS Lowry lived in Mottram in his later years, and the Chocolate & Wimberry mousse produced by Brett, cleverly displayed a reproduction of the painter’s Man Lying on a Wall around the outside of the double crust pie.
