Over 300 pupils from Salford and across the region took part in the fourth Children’s Shakespeare Festival at The Lowry this month.
School groups from Christ Church Primary School in Eccles, St Philips CE Primary School on Barron Street were amongst the performers over the two day festival. And on Tue 16 and Wed 17 June they performed their own 10 minute piece of theatre in The Lowry’s Quays theatre.
The play this year was A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the scheme of work was devised by the team at North West Drama Services. The journey began in January when teachers from Lewis Street Primary School, Summerville Primary School and St Paul’s CE Primary School of Cross Lane, were immersed in 24 hours of Shakespeare on a wet and windy residential in Wales.
This year is the first year that The Lowry and North West Drama Services have teamed up in an effort to expand the festival and enhance the fantastic offer that already existed. Through this partnership The Lowry has been able to offer over 200 pupils the opportunity to achieve a Discover Arts Award.
