Do something special this Christmas. Help The Lowry to support Young Carers across Salford and Greater Manchester.
What have we done so far?
The Lowry’s 2015 Christmas Appeal will support the development of our work with local Young Carers – children and young people who look after a family member with an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction.
In 2011, The Lowry raised £10,000 through its first ever Christmas Appeal to run a creative project with Young Carers across Salford. Since then, over 100 Young Carers have engaged in creative activity at The Lowry through weekly workshops, attending shows and visiting our Galleries, allowing them the opportunity to come together, have fun, enjoy a break from their caring responsibilities and use the arts as a tool to explore issues related to their lives.
Working alongside creative professionals, including highly acclaimed actress Maxine Peake, these inspirational young people have produced three high quality films with an accompanying toolkit that help young people explore and understand what it is like to be a Young Carer. These films and resources are now being used by teachers, schools, youth workers and health professionals to raise awareness about the issues faced by Young Carerswhilst also contributing to wider national debate; with the first film having been shown to MPs in the house of Lords.
