At The Lowry we have a fabulous learning and engagement team that work with the community in a variety of ways. Here in the marketing team we’ve had the pleasure of working with Nathan whilst he has been on our Youth Employability & Skills scheme. That’s Y.E.S to all those folk who like an anagram.
Nathan (19) is a huge fan of video games and it just so happens that we have a new play coming to us in July called ‘Don’t Wake The Damp’ which is inspired by 80s sci-fi, 90s gaming and cracking superhero theme tunes. So it only seems right that Nathan imparts his knowledge on the history of gaming with us. Here are his highlights from 1990’s. Remember any of these?
‘Dont Wake The Damp’ show inspired by video games that came out in the 90’s.
Remember the 90’s? That was the decade when young school children went crazy for some of the biggest names in video games. There was Street Fighter 2 (that came out in 1991 with its gory 8 bit violence), or there was Doom (No, not the movie that had The Rock in it) – I meant the game that came out in 1993. It was a classic shoot ‘em up game that featured alien monsters that you had to battle through waves of in order to survive and complete the game.
If you remember the 90’s, you’ll also remember the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) they had a few video games out such as WWF Superstars 2 that came out in 1992/93 on different consoles, WWF Super WrestleMania in 1992, WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game in 1995/96/97 and also the classic attitude era games, WWF WrestleMania 2000 in 1999 and WWF No Mercy in 2000. On these games you could play as legends such as Hulk Hogan, King Kong Bundy, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair, The Legion Of Doom, The Ultimate Warrior, The Nasty Boyz, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Bret Hart, The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, Chris Jericho, The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, Edge and Christian, Kurt Angle, William Regal, The Big Show, The Undertaker and Kane.
