As I look back on my first and only meeting with LS Lowry, what an extraordinary experience it was!  In late summer or autumn 1970, when just a trainee at Manchester (City) Art Galleries, I was invited by Mark Haworth-Booth, Assistant Keeper of the Rutherston Collection*, to accompany him on a visit to view the artist’s collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and drawings.
